The site's First-Year Baby Cost Estimator adds up a year: each monthly line times twelve, plus the gear, divided by twelve. With its defaults that is $5,220, or $435 a month. No month costs $435. The gear is paid before the baby comes home, the site's own diaper calculator counts 334 diapers in the first month and 213 by the end of the year, and childcare typed in as a monthly amount is counted for all twelve months even when it starts in month four.
